Indian sports tech start-up Hudle on Thursday announced that it had acquired a controlling stake in New Delhi-based sports discovery platform Sportido.
Sportido enables its users to find places and people to play particular sports with. Hudle, on the other hand, helps its users book and find sports venues across the country. The brand has also launched its “groups” feature, which allows its users to connect with other players.
Hudle has also partnered with prominent sports personalities, such as badminton player Puella Gopichand and cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, both of whom are serving as the company’s brand ambassadors. The company is backed by Inflection Point Ventures, Survam Partners and Indian Angel Network.
The move to bring in Sportido strengthens Huddle’s position in the country’s northern half, as it now gets access to the markets in which Sportido operates.
The COO of Hudle, Arjun Singh Verma, aims to make “recreational sports” India’s primary mode of fitness and exercise. “We have seen exponential growth of the sports ecosystem and Hudle over the last 3 years & Sportido coming onboard will help us accelerate towards our vision of making ‘recreational sports’ India’s primary form of fitness & exercise,” he said.
