Lowest-paid footballers in Serie A TIM 2023/24

Teams in the Italian Serie A have had their fair share of struggles financially over the last decade or so, with many of its talented stars leaving the shores for bigger wages. 

With all that struggle, how much are some of those lying at the foot of the wage bill making? In this listicle, we’ll take a look at the ten lowest-paid footballers of the Italian topflight. 

Note: In line with the figures from Capology, we use the Euro (€) as the currency, and only profiles that have been verified have been considered for this list.

10. Marco Carnesecchi | Atalanta BC

Gross p/w: €3,654 | Gross p/y: €190,000

Marco Carnesecchi is a 23-year-old who plays as a reserve goalie for Atalanta BC. Having joined the club as an academy product in 2017, the Italian has spent most of his time on loan spells with FC Trapani 1905 and US Cremonese.

At Atalanta, Carnesecchi is currently tied to an eight-year deal, which he signed in July 2019 and will expire in June 2027. 

9. Alessandro Vogliacco | Genoa CFC

Gross p/w: €3,654 | Gross p/y: €190,000

The 25-year-old Italian centre-back signed a five-year deal with Genoa CFC in August 2021. A former Juventus academy product, he spent a couple of years with Serie B side Pordenone Calcio before joining Genoa.

Vogliacco’s €3,654-a-week contract is set to run until June 2026.

8. Simone Bastoni | Spezia Calcio

Gross p/w: €3,654 | Gross p/y: €190,000

Simone Bastoni is a 26-year-old Italian left-back playing for Serie A club Empoli FC on loan from Spezia Calcio. Since breaking through as a youth player in 2014, Bastoni has not been able to cement a starting position at Spezia, having made only 86 appearances for them.

7. Emmanuel Ekong | Empoli FC

Gross p/w: €3,654 | Gross p/y: €190,000

Emmanuel Ekong is a 21-year-old forward. Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, he has represented Sweden at the youth level. Ekong is contracted to Empoli on a six-year deal which runs until June 2027, though he is currently on a season-long loan at Croatian club NK Istra 1961. 

6. Francesco Rossi | Atalanta BC

Gross p/w: €3,654 | Gross p/y: €190,000

Francesco Rossi is a 32-year-old Italian goalkeeper who plays for Atlanta BC. Having signed for the club in 2009, Rossi has only made five appearances for the club, spending most of his time out on loan at various clubs. His current deal runs out at the end of the 2023/24 season. 

5. Gianluca Gaetano | SSC Napoli

Gross p/w: €3,654 | Gross p/y: €190,000

This 22-year-old left-winger is an SSC Napoli youth product, having joined their academy back in 2011. After breaking through the ranks in 2019, Gaetano was given a six-year deal in July of that year. 

4. Grigoris Kastanos | US Salernitana 1919

Gross p/w: €3,654 | Gross p/y: €190,000

The 25-year-old Cyprus international joined Salernitana in August 2022 after signing a four-year deal set to run until June 2026. 

3. Luca Gemello | Torino FC

Gross p/w: €3,269 | Gross p/y: €170,000

Luca Gemello is a 23-year-old Italian goalkeeper playing as a reserve keeper for Torino FC. Having been with the club since 2017 as a youth product, Gemello is currently on a rolling contract with a base salary of €3,269.

2. Bruno Amione | Hellas Verona FC

Gross p/w: €2,308 | Gross p/y: €120,000

Argentine centre-back Bruno Amione joined Hellas Verona FC on a five-year deal in October 2020 from Club Atlético Belgrano in Argentina.

Having represented Hellas Verona just twice, Amione’s last two seasons have been on loan to their fellow Italian clubs Reggina and Sampdoria. His current €2,308/week contract is set to run until June 2025. 

1. Valentin Gendrey | US Lecce

Gross p/w: €2,308 | Gross p/y: €120,000

23-year-old French right-back Valentin Gendrey jointly holds the top spot for the lowest-paid footballer in the Serie A. Having signed a three-year deal with Lecce, Gendrey receives a gross weekly salary of €2,308, taking his gross annual salary to €120,000. His current deal is set to expire by the end of the 2023/24 season.
