F1 cancels Chinese Grand Prix 2023

Formula One has announced that, following discussion with the event organisers and promoters, the 2023 Chinese Grand Prix will not be taking place.

The decision is made due to the current COVID situation in the country. F1 has decided that it isn’t safe to race in the country yet. The Chinese Grand Prix was last held in 2019, following which all subsequent races in the country have been cancelled due to the COVID situation.

Given that the race is now cancelled, there is currently a four-week gap between the Australian Grand Prix on April 2, 2023, and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on April 30, 2023. Formula One officials have already previously tried to bring the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead, but the promoters have been against the idea of preponing the race.

With the Chinese Grand Prix removed from the upcoming season, F1 is yet to announce whether there will be another race replacing the event or whether the calendar will go ahead with only 23 races. The upcoming season was set to see a record 24-race calendar, with the Las Vegas Grand Prix also set to debut.
