Lawson to drive in FP2  at the Mexican Grand Prix in place of Yuki Tsunoda

Red Bull junior driver Liam Lawson will be taking over Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri at the Free Practice session 2 at the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix, following an announcement by French Formula One team Alpine.

Lawson had already made his FP1 debut at the Belgian Grand Prix earlier this year and this will be the Formula 2 driver’s second taste of Formula One machinery. By running Lawson in Mexico, AlphaTauri will also fulfil their rookie quota for the season

Lawson currently sits seventh in the Formula 2 championship and has won three races so far in the season and a strong finish at the Formula 2 season finale in Abu Dhabi could see the New Zealander finish as high as third in the championship, with the championship standings being extremely close this year.

Lawson isn’t the only Formula 2 driver who will be appearing in Mexico for Free Practice session runs though, as Formula 2 championship leader Jack Doohan will also be appearing in an Free Practice (FP1) session at the Mexican Grand Prix for Alpine, while other Formula 2 drivers Pietro Fittpaldi for Haas and Nyck de Vries for Mercedes will also drive in FP sessions at the Mexican race weekend. Logan Sargeant, who will be racing for Wiliams alongside Alex Albon for the 2023 season, will also appear in the FP1 session at Mexico, for Williams.
